Sarah Sanborn, MS, LCMHCA

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate at Melissa Villodas Counseling and Consulting. I am also working towards my Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C). My experience includes work with children, teens and adults dealing with a range of issues including: pre/postpartum mood, depression, anxiety, sports performance, disordered eating, stressed family systems, self-harm, perfectionism, identity issues and parenthood. I am also passionate about working with mothers and perinatal mood disorders.

As a former middle school teacher and current mother of two toddlers, I have a unique background working with children, adolescents and parents. I like to use an eclectic approach, intentionally tailored to the unique needs of each client. I believe that counseling should be an interactive process where you are given the space to grow and thrive.

I graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Spanish Language. Shortly after graduation, I moved to Asheville and earned my teaching certification from Western Carolina University. For the next seven years, I taught middle school Science and English Language Arts. Teaching led me to counseling. In 2019 I graduated from the University of Tennessee with my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

My husband and I spend most of our free time playing with our two toddler boys at home or in the woods. I also really enjoy trail running, hiking, mountain biking, gardening and curling up with a good book.

Life is beautiful and tough. Whether you are an anxious child, a new mother, a stressed teenager or a stuck adult, forming a therapeutic relationship can be life-changing. My hope as a counselor is that together we can meet life’s challenges and come out on the other side stronger and more resilient.
